Theda Bara, from the 1917 film Cleopatra (via Wikipedia Commons).
This film no longer exists, thanks to the Hays Code, the impact of which has never truly dissipated in Hollywood. At least we still have Goths, the fashion choices of whom are said to have been partially inspired by Bara’s own look (not specifically from this film), to carry on the legacy.
